WAIKOLOA, Hawaii – St. Mary’s improved by more than 20 strokes in its final two rounds of the Dennis Rose Invitational but stayed locked in at fifth place.

After their first round of 348, the Rattlers’ women’s golf sliced a team score of 337 and 334 in the final two rounds of the tournament for a final score of 1019, just three above fourth-place finisher Saint Martin’s University.

The tournament’s six teams all remained in the same position after the final day as they did after the first with Grand Canyon University taking the tournament with a team score of 915, followed by California State University-East Bay and University of Hawaii-Hilo. Grand Canyon’s Charlotte Jaengkit headed the tournament plenty of strokes below the 32 competitors with a score of 219, nine strokes ahead of second-place finisher Kelcey Tate, also of Grand Canyon University, and was the only putter in the tournament to finish on par for either of the three rounds with a 70 in round one.

For the Rattlers’ squad, Cami Furgeson (Sr., Newcastle, Calif.) remained the leader, finishing with a team-best 245 for 15th place. Bailey Furgeson (So., Newcastle, Calif.) was the only other Rattler with a top-20 finish, ending with a 250 for 17th place.

St. Mary’s four other competitors finished as pairs with Julia Dickens (Sr., Fredericksburg, Texas) and Heather Wedige (Fr., San Antonio) taking 23rd and 24th place, respectively, and Adela Elizonda (Sr., Monterrey, Mexico) and Daryn Petermann (So., Comfort, Texas) finishing in 27th and 28th place.

The tournament marked St. Mary’s last of the fall season. The Rattlers will resume their season again in the spring.
