ABILENE, Texas – If Saturday was any indication, McMurry and St. Mary’s should have no trouble brewing a healthy rivalry as future Heartland Conference foes.

The WarHawks topped the Rattlers 3-2 in a back-and-forth battle at Kimbrell Arena, as McMurry overcame a 2-1 deficit to claw back and claim the non-conference victory.

Taylor Obermiller (So., San Antonio) led the Rattlers with 15 kills, while Melissa Heft (So., San Antonio) and Jenna Paul (Fr., Alvin, Texas) chipped in 14 and 13, respectively, to lead the Rattlers to a near victory over their soon-to-be Heartland Conference rival.

McMurry was recently accepted into the conference and will become a full-fledged member next season.

Allie Murray (Sr., San Antonio) and Mikayla Bass (Fr., Coppell, Texas) each recorded 30 assists, while Victorria Martinez (So., Arlington, Texas) had 33 digs.

McMurry won the first set 25-23, but the Rattlers (3-5) came back to win the next two 26-24, 25-19. The WarHawks battled back, however, to close the match with 26-24, 15-9 victories.
