FORT SMITH, Ark. – After winning their last eight games, St. Mary’s couldn’t push their streak to nine Saturday.

Arkansas-Fort Smith topped the Rattlers 3-1, handing them their first loss since falling to McMurry on Sept. 15 by winning 25-16, 22-25, 25-12, 25-18.

Kelsey Huber (So., San Antonio) led St. Mary’s with 11 kills, while Melissa Heft (So., San Antonio) hit .400 to fuel an attack the saw the Rattlers even the match at 1-1 before dropping the final two sets.

Arkansas-Fort Smith improved to 13-2 overall and 6-0 in Heartland Conference play, while the Rattlers dropped to 11-6 and 4-3. St. Mary’s is fourth in the conference standings.

Mikayla Bass (Fr., Coppell, Texas) led the Rattlers with 17 assists, while Allie Murray (Sr., San Antonio) added 15. Karlie Ortega (Jr., San Antonio) had a team-high 12 digs, followed by Victorria Martinez (So., Arlington, Texas) and Murray with 11 and 10, respectively.

St. Mary’s will get back on the court Tuesday, when it hosts Our Lady of the Lake at 6 p.m. in non-conference action at Bill Greehey Arena.
