SAN ANGELO, Texas – Two tightly contested early sets weren’t enough to spur a St. Mary’s comeback against Texas A&M-Kingsville on Tuesday.

After dropping the first two sets by a combined four points, the Rattlers’ volleyball team dropped the third set as well in a 3-0 non-conference loss to the Javelinas.

Jenna Paul (Fr., Alvin, Texas) led St. Mary’s with eight kills, while Taylor Obermiller (So., San Antonio) hit .417 with six kills to help lead the Rattlers’ attack. Victorria Martinez (So., Arlington, Texas) posted 17 digs while Mikayla Bass (Fr., Coppell, Texas) had a team-high 15 assists.

St. Mary’s dropped the match 25-23, 25-23, 25-15, setting way for it to return home to Bill Greehey Arena for two pivotal Heartland Conference matches later this week. The Rattlers, eyeing the fourth and final seed in the Heartland Conference Tournament, host Newman at 7 p.m. Thursday and Arkansas-Fort Smith at Noon Saturday in the home finale.
