Brian St. John, associate professor and chair of the Art Department at St. Mary’s University, has been named the 2012 Artist of the Year by the San Antonio Art League and Museum.

The Artist of the Year is honored with a retrospective exhibition and catalog. This award has been presented every year since 1945 to artists within a 60-mile radius of San Antonio. St. John’s one-person exhibition will be at the museum from September 9 to October 23, 2012.

In addition to his faculty position, St. John is a professional artist with a private studio in San Antonio. Painting is his primary art focus, although he has worked in other media and processes including printmaking/etching and sculpture in clay. His academic training includes both abstraction and naturalism.
