San Antonio – St. Mary’s softball players Taylor Vidrine and Emily Brittain were honored by the Heartland Conference on Monday.

Earning her first league-wide award, Vidrine, a freshman from O’Connor High School in Helotes, was named the conference’s Hitter of the Week after batting .400 with three RBIs, a home run and a stolen base over two games last week.

Meanwhile, for the third time this season Brittain earned Pitcher of the Week honors after pitching a two-hit shutout in a 7-0 victory over Texas A&M-Kingsville last week. Brittain is the Heartland’s reigning Pitcher and Freshman of the Year.

For Vidrine, the freshman has started out of the gate as one of the Rattlers’ premier hitters, shining as both a designated hitter and first baseman. She is batting .340 for the season with 10 RBIs and nine runs scored.

Brittain, meanwhile, is again performing like one of the conference’s top players, maintaining a 2.52 ERA and a 6-3 record over 11 appearances this season. She has also maintained a 45-13 strikeout-to-walk ratio.

The Rattlers (14-10) will return to play with a non-conference doubleheader against Tarleton State on Tuesday. The games will begin at 1 p.m. at St. Mary’s Softball Field.
