The upcoming installment of Community Conversations at St. Mary’s will focus on the proposed sales tax increase to pay for San Antonio Mayor Julián Castro’s Pre-K 4 SA Initiative, a plan designed to improve access to quality and affordable pre-school options.

The event will be Monday, Oct. 22, 2012 at 6:30 p.m., and will include presentations by Castro and Bexar County Commissioner Kevin Wolff, who will offer an alternative viewpoint. The presentations will be followed by a question and answer session with the audience, moderated by KLRN’s Rick Casey, host of “Texas Week with Rick Casey.”

The measure is included on the Nov. 6 ballot, with early voting starting Oct. 22.

Community Conversations will be held on the St. Mary’s campus in the University Center, Conference Room A. The event is free and open to the public. Note that a watch party for the final Presidential Debate at 8 p.m. will follow Community Conversations. The St. Mary’s University Student Government Association is sponsoring the debate watch.

The Community Conversations series is a part of the Institute for Public Administration, Politics and Public Policy at St. Mary’s University, which is housed within the St. Mary’s Graduate School. One of the primary goals of the Institute is to develop outreach programs that foster dialogue between the University, the public, government agencies and nonprofits to address important public issues.
