San Antonio – Billy Richard has been named the Heartland Conference Hitter of the Week, the league announced Monday.

Richard (Jr., Schertz, Texas) took home the honor for the third time this season after homering twice with six RBIs, two doubles and a .462 batting average last week. His effort helped the Rattlers (41-8) close out the Heartland Conference portion of their schedule with a sweep of Texas A&M International in Laredo, Texas.

After a breakthrough season last year, Richard has earned star status this year, leading the Heartland Conference in runs scored with 56 and ranking second in batting average (.366) and home runs (8). He also leads the league in hits with 67.

The Rattlers, ranked No. 1 in the nation in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association poll, won the Heartland Conference regular-season championship and will host the league’s tournament at a to-be-determined site in San Antonio. The tourney is expected to run May 10-12.
