San Antonio – After an explosive outing against Texas Woman’s University last week, sophomore Morgan Pullins has brought in St. Mary’s first women’s basketball Heartland Conference Player of the Week award for the 2012-13 season.
Named the league’s Co-Player of the Week, Pullins (Franklin, Mich.) earned her first such award after filling up the stat sheet against Lone Star conference contender Texas Woman’s, scoring a career-high 23 points while pulling in eight rebounds, four steals and three blocks in the road victory.
As last season’s Freshman of the Year and All-Conference Second Team honoree, Pullins continues on her reign of success as she leads the Lady Rattlers in blocks (15), steals (25), rebounds (61), points (113) and has the highest field-goal percentage on the team at 63.2 percent. In her third-career 20-point performance in the win over Texas Woman’s, Pullins’ surge at the boards helped the Rattlers improve to 7-2 on the season – an improvement that could have them eyeing a national ranking in the upcoming weeks.
Pullins and the Rattlers have just two more non-conference games before launching into Heartland Conference play Jan. 3. St. Mary’s hopes to extend its win streak to five in its first of two road games next Monday against Southeastern Oklahoma State University at 5:30 p.m. in Durant, Okla.
