LAREDO, Texas – The road trip down to Laredo Community College was a somber one for the St. Mary’s men’s tennis team as it faced its fourth loss of the spring season, 9-0.

Their improvement as a team in recent tough challenges, including one against a Division I team, could still be seen through Saturday’s loss however, as the Rattlers battled strong against another nationally ranked opponent in Laredo Community College.

Senior Marcin Marczewski (Warsaw, Poland) didn’t give J. Assuagno of Laredo Community College an easy win in singles, going 6-4 in both sets. Jake Williams (Sr., Dallas) was right behind Marczewski as one of the Rattlers’ top players, going 6-2 and 6-3 in his matches.

Williams and Marczewski teamed up in doubles, again contesting Laredo Community College, but fell 8-5. Newcomers Michael Ortiz (Fr., Corpus Christi, Texas) and Mateo Martinez (Fr., San Antonio) held strong at the other end of the court in doubles, but fell just short of a victory in a 8-6 defeat.

As the Rattlers’ steadily serve through the season, their potential is gearing up to match their skill level as they come back home Wednesday to face Midwestern State University on the St. Mary’s Tennis Courts. Match time starts at 3 p.m.
