San Antonio – The Rattlers pulled in their third top-five finish of the season, recording a fourth-place finish at the Bruce Williams Memorial/St. Mary’s Invitational, with Marko Lloyd leading the pack as a medalist Tuesday.

Lloyd (So., New Braunfels, Texas) reigned throughout the tournament hosted at the Dominion Country Club, leading the entire tournament after carding a first-round score of 70 and finishing tied for seventh place with a three-round score of 220.

St. Mary’s only other sophomore, Matthew Van Winkle (Castroville, Texas), rounded out the Rattlers’ top-10 finishers for the tournament, placing tied for ninth and finishing one stroke behind Lloyd at 221 with scores of 78, 70 and 73.

The Rattlers’ fourth-place finish out of the 12 competing teams came with a team score of 891, a few shades behind the second and third finishers, Cameron University and Incarnate Word (both at 884). Taking home the championship was Abilene Christian University with a team score of 851. The Wildcats also housed the winner of the tournament in Corbin Renner, who recorded a 201 for the three rounds.

The tournament marked the Rattlers’ final showcase for the fall season.

Freshman Kirby Gorzell (San Antonio), who won the Ryan Palmer Foundation Invitational earlier this month, hit a rare hole-in-one on Day 1 of the tournament, slicing the shot on the eighth hole with his six-iron club.

Gorzell, the reigning Heartland Conference Men’s Golfer of the Week, finished tied for 24th place with a final score of 226 – just after Shawn Bennett (Jr., Marion, Texas), who finished tied for 16th place.

Alex Bissaro (San Antonio) and Chris Contreras (San Antonio) both finished the tournament tied for 29th place with final scores of 227.
