San Antonio – Emotions flowed during Monday’s game with Texas A&M International, and they flowed afterward, too.

In a game where 33 fouls were called, the Dustdevils outlasted the Lady Rattlers’ women’s soccer team, pulling away 1-0 in Heartland Conference action at the Northside ISD Soccer Field.

TAMIU’s Sol Medina scored an unassisted goal in the 63rd minute, tracking down a loose ball and sneaking it past Rattlers keeper Alyssa Taramona, a freshman who otherwise played a flawless game behind the net in her second start.

Afterward, an emotional Rattler (3-3, 0-2 in Heartland Conference) squad reflected about the performance, with senior Leia Kirch (Carrollton, Texas) vowing her teammates would pull it together and become the team they know they can become.

Until then, they were left stewing about one that they felt they let get away, as the Rattlers outshot their opponent 12-5 but left with nothing on the scoreboard to show for their attacking effort. The Lady Rattlers had several looks down the stretch, all of which sailed high.

The good news for St. Mary’s is that it will return to action quickly, as the Rattlers will take on Oklahoma Christian in a non-conference game at 12 p.m. Thursday at Oklahoma Christian.
