EDMOND, Okla. – The St. Mary’s women’s soccer team struck first Thursday against Oklahoma Christian. Unfortunately, the Lady Rattlers didn’t strike last.

The Eagles downed the Rattlers 3-1, topping St. Mary’s on a night it saw leading goal scorer Leia Kirch ejected when she was issued a red card in the 65th minute with the game tied 1-1.

Leah Snelson (Jr., Dallas) scored off the assist from her sister, Emilie (Sr., Dallas) in the 24th minute, but the Lady Rattlers would not find the back of the net anymore on a frustrating night. St. Mary’s outshot Oklahoma Christian 21-19 and had five corner kicks to the Eagles’ one, but still could not get the juices going offensively.

Alyssa Taramona (Fr., Forney, Texas) started the night and surrendered a goal while collecting four saves in a half of duty. Paola Ostos (Jr., El Paso, Texas), the reigning Heartland Conference Defensive Player of the Week, took over in the second half, yielding a pair of goals and recording two saves.

St. Mary’s dropped to 8-7 on the season but has no time to mope over the defeat. The Lady Rattlers must immediately turn their against to Newman, whom they play on the road Saturday in a pivotal game as they attempt to seal one of the four seeds that would land them a spot in the Heartland Conference Tournament. Game time is Noon in Wichita, Kan.
