San Antonio – A day before the St. Mary’s men’s basketball team is set to depart to Wichita Falls, Texas for the NCAA Tournament, the Rattlers got a little dose of good news Wednesday.

Kevin Kotzur has been named All-Region.

Kotzur, a junior forward/center from La Vernia, Texas, made the Daktronics All-South Central Second Team for the third straight year, it was announced.

Kotzur leads the Rattlers (19-8) with 17.9 points per game and 8.7 rebounds per game, and ranks third in the nation in field-goal percentage at 65.8 percent. Over the last three games alone, Kotzur has gone 30 of 34 from the floor, including 17 of 19 in the Heartland Conference Tournament en route to taking home Tournament Most Valuable Player honors.

In leading St. Mary’s to its first national-tournament appearance since 2008, Kotzur has moved up to No. 8 on the school’s all-time scoring chart with 1,436 career points and No. 3 on the all-time rebounding list with 708 career boards.

No. 8 seed St. Mary’s, the Heartland’s postseason champion, will play at No. 1 seed Midwestern State University in the opening round of the South Central Regional at 6 p.m. Saturday in Wichita Falls.
