POTTSBORO, Texas – Sam Jernigan turned in one of the top scores in Monday’s second round, positioning the St. Mary’s senior and his Rattler teammates in a nice spot entering Tuesday’s third and final round.
The Rattlers enter the final day in third place, trailing leader Arkansas-Fort Smith by 12 strokes, at the Texoma Chevy Dealers Crawford Wade Intercollegiate at Tanglewood Resort.
Jernigan (Sr., San Antonio), who fired a scorching 71 in the second round, is tied for fourth place with a two-round score of 148.
Southern Arkansas’ Travis Chrietzberg leads the field at 141.
Jernigan’s fellow senior, Chris Becker (San Antonio), also had a strong first day, tying for ninth place at 149. Matthew Van Winkle (Fr., Castroville, Texas) shot 153 and is in 19th place, while Kyle Becker (Fr., San Antonio) is 24th at 154. Shawn Bennett (So., Marion, Texas) shot 13.
The Rattlers shot 602 as a team. The final round will commence Tuesday.
