Wichita, Kan. – Jared Gonzalez left her mark at the Newman Softball Field in the most literal of senses Saturday.

Denting the Jets’ scoreboard with her fifth home run of the three-game series, the St. Mary’s slugger powered the Rattlers to a 10-1 run-rule victory to sweep the series.

Gonzalez (Jr., San Antonio) went 2 for 2 and added three RBIs and two more runs scored to her weekend tally, giving her nine RBIs and seven runs scored over the three games against Newman.

With the win, St. Mary’s improved to 28-16 overall and 10-2 in Heartland Conference, leaving them just a single game back of St. Edward’s in the loss column for first place.

Katie Nichols (Jr., San Marcos, Texas) and Vianna Gutierrez (Fr., San Antonio) drove in two runs apiece as the Rattlers won the game in a six-inning run-rule. Gutierrez picked up the win in the pitcher’s circle, striking out three batters over five innings.

St. Mary’s jumped to a 6-0 lead by the third inning, scoring three runs in each of the second and third frames. Four more runs in the sixth closed the game out for the Rattlers.

The Rattlers will be back in action Wednesday, when they host Incarnate Word in the regular-season home final in a doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m. at the SAISD Sports Complex.
