KERRVILLE, Texas – For the first time since 2009, St. Mary’s women’s golf took home a first-place team and individual finish over the two-day tournament of the Schreiner Women’s Fall Classic.

The Rattlers stifled their competition, leaving little room for any other of the seven teams to close the gap as St. Mary’s won the tournament by seven strokes. St. Mary’s held the first-place position after the first day of the tournament with a team score of 324, which it improved upon on day two, shooting a 322 to seal the victory with a final score of 646.

Three of the Top-10 finishers for the tournament were Rattlers, with five in the Top 15. Cami Furgeson (Sr., Newcastle, Calif.) was the star who took the entire tournament, finishing tied for first place out of 46 competitors with a final score of 157 with rounds of 77 and 80.

Fellow senior Julia Dickens (Fredericksburg, Texas) finished two strokes behind Furgeson for a third-place finish. Furgeson’s sister, Bailey Furgeson (So., Newcastle, Calif.) rounded out the Rattlers’ Top-10 finishers at No. 10 for the tournament with a 164 final score.

Adela Elizonda (Sr., Monterrey, Mexico) and medalist Daryn Petermann (So., Comfort, Texas) finished 12th and 13th with scores of 166 and 167, respectively, to top off the Rattlers’ bulk of the leaders for the tournament.

For St. Mary’s newest additions, Heather Wedige (Fr., San Antonio) finished 32nd while Gabriella Villarreal (Fr., Rio Grande City, Texas) finished the tournament tied for 34th place.

The Rattlers will take all the bragging rights and confidence gained from their championship finish as they trek to their next tournament in Waikoloa, Hawaii to compete in the Dennis Rose Intercollegiate Tournament beginning Mon., Oct. 29.
