WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Matt Vela is in contention for the individual crown at the Midwestern State Invitational after carding a 145 over the tournament’s first two rounds Monday.
Vela (Sr., San Antonio) followed up his opening-round 73 with a 72 in Round 2, leaving him three strokes off the lead entering Tuesday’s third and final round.
As a team, the Rattlers are tied for ninth place after shooting 611, leaving them 26 shots behind tournament-leading Oklahoma Christian (585).
Jeff Rein (Sr., San Antonio) shot 152, good enough for a tie for 22nd place, while Sam Jernigan (Jr., San Antonio) shot 156. Chris Becker (Jr., San Antonio) carded a 158.
