San Antonio – Chalk up another award for St. Mary’s dynamic golfing tandem of Matt Vela and Jeff Rein.
The seniors were named to the Division II PING All-Region Team on Wednesday, joining 102 other golfers from across eight regions to receive the honor from Golf Coaches Association of America. Rein and Vela appeared on the South Central team.
Vela, the Heartland Conference Men’s Golfer of the Year, maintained an average score of 73.17 for the season. The senior from San Antonio enjoyed seven top-10 finishes, and he placed in the top five on four occasions.
Rein, also a senior from the Alamo City, averaged 72.80 over 11 tournaments during this past season, including six top-10 finishes. He placed second at the Heartland Conference championship.
