St. Mary’s University recognized the potential of more than 200 exceptional high school students from around the San Antonio area with more than $3.8 million in scholarships to attend St. Mary’s after high school.

The students all participated this summer in the San Antonio Pre-freshmen Engineering Program (PREP), a program providing extra math and science study to promising students starting in the middle school grades. The students at St. Mary’s for the seven-week program were completing their third year of PREP.

The top students were awarded scholarships of varying amounts: 23 students received $13,500 per year; 104 students received $3,500 per year award; 96 scholarships for $1,500 per year. All are good for four years, or five years if the student majors in engineering.

Students in the PREP program take a variety of courses intended to strengthen their skills in areas such as statistics, technical writing and math problem solving. They participated in hands-on engineering projects and learned about career possibilities in math, engineering and science.
