San Antonio – Jared Gonzalez can add “First-Team All-Region” to her massive list of accomplishments in her first season as a St. Mary’s Lady Rattler.

Gonzalez, a sophomore first baseman from Converse Judson High School, was named to the Daktronics All-America Softball Team South Central Region, which was announced Wednesday.

In addition, freshman ace Emily Brittain was named to the second team, adding the finishing touch to what was a phenomenal freshman campaign.

Gonzalez, who earlier had been named the Heartland Conference Co-Newcomer of the Year, led St. Mary’s (36-21) in batting average, home runs, RBIs and doubles. She hit .371 with 47 RBIs, seven home runs and 15 doubles on the season. She was also named to the All-Heartland Conference Tournament Team.

Brittain, the Heartland Conference Pitcher of the Year, went 21-10 with a 1.69 ERA and 142 strikeouts. Brittain, a native of Corpus Christi, Texas, helped the Lady Rattlers win the Heartland Conference regular-season title and advance to the South Central Region tournament for the 10th time in 11 years.
