San Antonio – Cameras snapped and players posed Saturday morning, as the St. Mary’s women’s soccer team honored seniors Ashley Condrin and Andrea Gregg on this, Senior Day.

With the Lady Rattlers’ playoff positioning already solidified and no room to move up or down the Heartland Conference standings, Saturday’s game against Dallas Baptist felt as much about honoring the fine careers of Condrin and Gregg as it did anything else.

Condrin (Sr., Trophy Club, Texas) and Gregg (Sr., Austin, Texas) have been defensive stalwarts these last four years, a theme that certainly held true again in what became a 1-0 loss to conference-leading Dallas Baptist in the regular-season finale.

The Patriots got off 14 shots, but with the Rattlers’ stifling defense preventing many good looks, the Rattlers (8-7-2, 5-4 Heartland Conference) held on until the very end.

Ashlyn Leighton (So., Houston) got off three shots, all on goal, while Kaitie Kasperitis (Fr., Corpus Christi, Texas) and Caili Smith (Fr., Plano, Texas) got off two shots on goal apiece. But the Rattlers couldn’t find the net, not with Dallas Baptist’s (12-4-1, 8-1) Kerry Edwards in the goal. The standout goalkeeper recorded seven saves, stymieing all of the Rattlers’ scoring attempts.

But with defenders Condrin and Gregg leading the way defensively, the Rattlers stood a chance until the final horn sounded.

The Rattlers will move on to the Heartland Conference Tournament, which is expected to be held in Dallas, next Friday at a to-be-determined time.
