San Antonio – There is no better way to beckon some much-needed rain than to schedule a baseball tournament.

With that in mind, with nary a drop of rain for two months, the opening day of the Heartland Conference Baseball Tournament was rained out Thursday, pushing the entire tournament back one day. The event will now run Friday-Sunday, with Game 1 between No. 2-seeded St. Edward’s and third-seeded Texas-Permian Basin now slated for 1 p.m. Friday at V.J. Keefe Field.

Top-seeded St. Mary’s will play No. 4 seed Texas A&M International at 5 p.m.

Games 3-5 are now scheduled for 12 p.m., 3:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday, with the championship game slated for 1 p.m. Sunday. If necessary, an additional game would take place 45 minutes following the conclusion of that contest.

The tarp kept the infield at V.J. Keefe Field in practically pristine shape, but there was a wet spot in the outfield that concerned the coaches involved.

Tickets for adults will cost $6, while student tickets cost $3. There is also a tournament pass available for $15. All tickets are available at the gate.
