San Antonio – Days after pitching one of the most memorable no-decisions in St. Mary’s baseball history, pitcher Carl O’Neal has been named the Heartland Conference Pitcher of the Week once again.

O’Neal (So., San Antonio) carried a no-hitter through nine innings against St. Edward’s last Friday, allowing just a single hit that came in the 10th inning in an eventual 1-0 victory. O’Neal struck out five and fanned six in the game.

Last week, O’Neal fanned 11 in a victory over Oklahoma Panhandle State, earning him Heartland Conference Pitcher of the Week honors for the first time. In all, four different St. Mary’s pitchers have won the award this season.

St. Mary’s is 38-8 overall with a 24-3 record in Heartland Conference play. The Rattlers wrapped up the regular-season conference crown with a 3-0 series sweep of St. Edward’s last week, earning them the right to host the Heartland Conference Tournament in May.

St. Mary’s will host Incarnate Word at 6 p.m. Tuesday, in the final regularly scheduled game at V.J. Keefe Memorial Stadium.
