ODESSA, Texas – The eighth-ranked St. Mary’s baseball team split two games with Texas-Permian Basin on Friday, beating the Falcons 5-4 before dropping Game 2 3-2.

Hitting an RBI single through the right side in the top of the seventh inning in Game 1, Rattlers third baseman Reagan Moczygemba (Sr., Bulverde, Texas) drove in the go-ahead and eventual winning run with two outs.

Ace Matt Holland (Sr., Shreveport, La.) picked up the victory to improve to 9-1. He struck out one while scattering six hits and four runs in six innings. Sammy Rivas (Sr., San Antonio) earned his eighth save, pitching one scoreless inning. He leads all of Division II with a 0.00 ERA in 25.1 innings over 17 appearances.

Second baseman Weston Baros (Sr., San Antonio) and catcher Ryan Morrow (Sr., Bulverde, Texas) each drove in two runs in the game.

In Game 2, the Rattlers (29-8, 17-3) fell behind 2-1 after the Falcons (15-19, 10-10) struck twice in the fifth, a lead they extended to 3-1 in the next frame.

Greg Herbst (Sr., San Antonio) earned the loss despite striking out six and giving up three runs, none of which were earned.

Right fielder Jason Garcia (Sr., Falfurrias, Texas) went 3 for 4 in the game with an RBI, while Moczygemba drove in a run and scored once on a 2-for-4 performance.

The Rattlers, who lead the Heartland Conference, will wrap up the three-game series at 12 p.m. Saturday.
