FORT SMITH, Ark. – The 7th-ranked St. Mary’s baseball team will have to start a new winning streak.

Snapping the Rattlers’ nine-game streak, Arkansas-Fort Smith beat St. Mary’s 2-0 at Crowder Field on Saturday.

Carrying a no-hitter into the eighth inning, Arkansas-Fort Smith’s Taylor Shaddy pitched a complete-game two-hitter for the Lions, stifling the Rattlers’ red-hot offense after St. Mary’s dominated Games 1 and 2 of the series on Friday.

Arkansas-Fort Smith struck for a run in the third and another in the sixth, giving Shaddy enough run support for the win.

St. Mary’s catcher Ryan Morrow (Sr., Bulverde, Texas) and outfielder Josh McElroy (Jr., Helotes, Texas) each singled in the eighth inning to break up Shaddy’s no-hitter.

Rattlers pitcher Carl O’Neal struck out seven in 7.1 innings, while scattering just five hits and two earned runs.

St. Mary’s, which is 27-7 on the year, hosts Houston-Victoria at 5 p.m. Tuesday at V.J. Keefe Memorial Stadium.
