LAREDO, Texas – The No. 5 St. Mary’s baseball team closed out the regular season with an 11-8 victory over Texas A&M International, upping its winning streak to 13 on Saturday.

Centerfielder Billy Richard and shortstop Esteban Raygoza each drove in three runs, leading the Rattlers to a victory that allowed them to close out the season with a 27-3 mark in Heartland Conference competition.

Next up for St. Mary’s (42-8 overall) is the Heartland Conference Tournament, held at V.J. Keefe Field from May 12-14.

Reliever Kyle Bumpas (Fr., El Paso, Texas) pitched up the victory after pitching 2/3 of an inning in relief to improve to 7-0 on the season. Closer Sammy Rivas (Sr., San Antonio) collected his 13th save, giving up one hit and striking out one in one inning of work.

St. Mary’s is 21-2 over its last 23 games.

A three-run sixth inning gave TAMIU a brief lead – with the emphasis being on “brief.” In the top of the seventh, the Rattlers exploded for nine runs, taking a commanding 11-4 lead that they would not relinquish.
