SAN ANGELO, Texas – St. Mary’s atoned for letting a late lead slip away late in Friday’s series-opening game against Angelo State by blanking the Rams in Game 2.

Behind pitcher Greg Herbst’s 12-strikeout, complete-game shutout, the Rattlers won 1-0 hours after falling 6-4 at Foster Field.

The 13th-ranked Rattlers (19-6) led 4-1 in the fifth inning of Game 1, but a furious Rams rally erased the lead.

First baseman Derek Moczygemba drove in brother Reagan on a third-inning double for the Rattlers’ only run of the nightcap.

In Game 1, second baseman Weston Baros (Sr., San Antonio) drove in three runs, including a two-run blast in the second, to lead St. Mary’s at the plate. He went 2 for 2 and scored two runs in the game. Derek Moczygemba drove in the other run in the game.

The two teams will play a doubleheader at St. Mary’s beginning at 4 p.m. Sunday.
