WICHITA FALLS, Texas – With Midwestern State getting ample opportunities Sunday, St. Mary’s could only contain the 12th-ranked Mustangs’ offensive onslaught for so long.

In fact, that the Rattlers yielded just four goals on a day they were outshot 31-2 might have signaled a minor victory in the net.
Midwestern State blanked St. Mary’s 4-0 before 605 fans, striking twice in the first half and twice more in the second half in an impressive showing.

St. Mary’s goalkeeper Patrick Kasperitis (RS-So., Corpus Christi, Texas) saved seven of the Mustangs’ 11 shots on goal, but it wasn’t enough with the Rattlers mustering just two shots, including one on goal.

Midwestern State (7-1) also had 12 corner kicks to St. Mary’s zero.

The loss dropped the Rattlers to 2-7 on the season heading into Sunday’s pivotal match against Texas A&M International at 3 p.m. at Northside ISD Soccer Field. The Dustdevils lead the Heartland Conference with a 3-0 record, representing a golden opportunity for the Rattlers (1-3 in conference) to climb up the league standings.
