WICHITA, Kan. – The 11th-ranked St. Mary’s baseball team concluded its three-game sweep of Newman on Saturday, pounding the Jets 8-3 to extend its winning streak to seven.

Leftfielder Josh McElroy (Jr., Helotes, Texas) drove in three runs and shortstop Esteban Raygoza (Jr., San Antonio) added two RBIs, while pitcher Carl O’Neal (So., San Antonio) struck out five in six innings to pick up the victory.

St. Mary’s (25-6, 16-2 in Heartland Conference) extended its conference lead over St. Edward’s and Texas A&M International, which hold 10-5 and 11-6 records, respectively.

Unlike the first two victories over Newman, in which St. Mary’s broke loose from 1-1 ties midway through both games, the Rattlers led from the start Saturday.

First baseman Tyler Migl (Jr., San Antonio) singled to drive in one run and third baseman Reagan Moczygemba (Sr., San Antonio) brought in another as St. Mary’s grabbed a quick 2-0 lead in the first.

The Rattlers made it 4-0 in the fifth. Though Newman cut it to 4-3 in the sixth, St. Mary’s tacked on four additional runs in the ninth to ice the win.

Raygoza drove in one run in the frame on a single, while McElroy then added the exclamation mark with a three-run triple to left field.
