St. Mary’s University Music Department will present performances of the operetta Die Fledermaus on Saturday, Nov. 19 and Sunday, Nov. 20.

Die Fledermaus, or The Bat, will be performed in English with music by composer Johann Strauss. The story begins with Baron von Eisenstein being sentenced an eight-day jail term after committing a petty crime. Though he tells his wife Rosalinde that he is headed to serve his term, Eisenstein instead puts off jail for a day to first enjoy an evening at the ball. When the jailor arrives to take Eisenstein away, a case of mistaken identity creates chaos and the conniving efforts of his longtime friend and rival Falke complicate the situation. Hilarious antics and drama unfold as the story is told.

Performances will be Saturday, Nov. 19 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 20 at 3 p.m. Both performances will be in the Treadaway Performance Hall.
