Dallas – There were weather delays, a change of venue and, ultimately, heartbreak for the St. Mary’s Rattlers on Thursday.

The second-seeded St. Mary’s men’s tennis team lost a hard-fought match to No. 3 Newman, 5-4, while top-seeded St. Edward’s beat the Rattlers’ women’s tennis team 6-0 to advance to the championship game.

Despite valiant efforts, the men’s and women’s tennis teams’ seasons came to an end.

Andrej Klipa (So., Belgrade, Serbia), Jake Williams (Jr., Dallas) and Carlos Olea (Fr., Matamoros, Mexico) all picked up singles victories for the Rattlers on the men’s side, while Williams and Klipa also teamed up for a doubles victory.

For the women, Anita Qureshi (So., San Antonio) and Elisha Bryant (So., Plano, Texas) nearly came up with a doubles victory, narrowly falling 9-7 to Brien/Ruscoe. Kelly Cooper (Jr., San Antonio) and Huong Huynh (Jr., Houston) also endured a close defeat, falling 8-5 to Rachel/Fahnejelm.
