Seguin, TEXAS – The St. Mary’s men’s tennis team was full of champions in the recent Doc Skogman Invitational, making for a successful wrap up to the regular fall season.

Jake Williams (Sr., Dallas) defeated Baker of USW for the Consolidation championship in C Singles, while freshman Mateo Martinez (Fr., San Antonio) represented the Rattlers in the G Singles and came out with the win in the final.

The Rattlers continued their trek at Texas Lutheran’s event, with Carlos Olea (So., Matamoros, Mexico) winning the championship in the E Singles and Michael Ortiz (Fr., Corpus Christi, Texas) claiming the final in the F Singles.

The Rattler aces of Andrej Klipa (Jr., Belgrade, Serbia) and Marcin Marczewski (Sr., Warsaw, Poland) both advanced to the A Singles final ready to compete against each other, but were unable to finish the match due to weather conditions, missing out on another championship title in the Rattlers’ name.

In the team efforts, Klipa and Marczewski teamed up in the in the A doubles quarterfinals to defeat Sifuentes/Ellsworth of Texas-Permian Basin. Olea and Martinez advanced to the quarterfinals to defeat Ozarks’ doubles team, while Moreno and Ortiz also competed in the quarterfinals for the C doubles to defeat Crisp and Flowers of ETBU.

The Rattlers have definitely made themselves accustomed to pulling out a victory when the championship is on the line, with the colors blue in gold regularly filling the finals’ court. The stats for the St. Mary’s men’s tennis team indicate it is ready for conference play in its spring season, evident with its four championships in the Doc Skogman Invitational.
