San Antonio – The St. Mary’s men’s tennis team picked up a pivotal Heartland Conference victory Monday.
Paced by victories from Marcin Marczewski (Jr., Warsaw, Poland) and Guy Rutten (Sr., Almelo, Netherlands), the men beat Newman 6-3 for their first conference victory of the year at the St. Mary’s Tennis Courts.
At 1-1 in league play, they can begin focusing in on tracking down conference-leading St. Edward’s heading down the home stretch.
Marczewski and Rutten won in doubles action, taking down King/Dunsieth 8-3 before also cruising to singles triumphs.
Both the men and women will return to action Saturday, when they host conference foe Dallas Baptist at 11 a.m. at the St. Mary’s Tennis Courts.
