San Antonio – Not even voters can get in the way of Kevin Kotzur these days.

Unstoppable inside of late, the St. Mary’s University sophomore forward/center ran away with his third straight Heartland Conference Player of the Week award on Monday.

The honor came days after Kotzur, a native of La Vernia, Texas, scored a career-high 34 points in a loss to the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith last week. The point total marked the most by any Rattler in at least 10 years.

He made 14 of 21 shots and hauled in six rebounds in the game.

Kotzur, the conference’s reigning Newcomer and Freshman of the Year, leads the conference in scoring (18.7 points per game) and rebounding (7.9 per game).

The Rattlers (11-6 overall) are 5-0, good enough for sole possession of first place in the conference standings heading into the final game of the first round of league competition. St. Mary’s travels to Laredo, Texas, where it will play Texas A&M International on Thursday.
