San Antonio – Kevin Kotzur says wins, not individual awards and statistics, will define his career at St. Mary’s.

Still, it’s never a bad thing for some accolades to follow a nice victory.

After leading the Rattlers to a 2-0 mark to open up Heartland Conference play last week, Kotzur has been named the conference’s Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.

Kotzur, a sophomore forward/center from La Vernia, Texas, averaged 17.5 points and 9 rebounds in victories over St. Edward’s University and the University of Texas-Permian Basin. He also connected on nearly 70 percent of his shots, shooting 16 for 23 from the floor – nothing new for the Rattlers’ career shooting-percentage leader.

Kotzur is the third Rattler to earn the honor this season, joining point guard Josh Orta (So., San Antonio) and guard Lamb Autrey (Jr., Cibolo, Texas).

Kotzur leads the conference in scoring (18.2 points per game) and rebounding (7.7 boards per game).

St. Mary’s (8-5, 2-0) plays at Dallas Baptist University at 7 p.m. tonight.
