The San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce hosted a community conversation with U.S. Sen. Robert Menendez of New Jersey on Tuesday, April 19, 2011 on the campus of St. Mary’s University. The event was moderated by Evan Smith, editor-in-chief of The Texas Tribune.

Sen. Menendez grew up the son of Cuban immigrants in a tenement building in Union City and went on to become a U.S. senator and a member of the Senate leadership. First appointed to the Senate in 2006, he is serving his first full term in office. His Senate Committee assignments include the Finance; Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs; and Foreign Relations.

This event was part of the Hispanic Chamber’s larger effort to attract national and international leaders to San Antonio and to have an open conversation on issues of importance to the local business community.
