San Antonio – St. Mary’s University placed 80 student-athletes on the Heartland Conference Academic All-Conference list, the second most of any Heartland institution, the league announced on Sunday.
St. Mary’s had 36 student-athletes receive President’s-level recognition, going to those maintaining a grade-point average of 3.50 or higher. Another 44 student-athletes made the Commissioner’s list (3.0-3.49).
In all, nearly half of St. Mary’s entire body of student-athletes received academic recognition.
“I’m very proud of our student-athletes,” St. Mary’s Athletics Director Charlie Migl said. “With our conference the way it is, being such a big conference with a lot of travel involved, I’m just proud of the way they are able to handle the academic part of it. That speaks volumes for them.
“I always tell our student-athletes that if you have a good line of communication, you can get things done. It takes a lot of budgeting your time, working with the faculty, and we certainly appreciate all the help they’ve provided. It’s a team effort where we are all in this together.”
St. Mary’s has placed 290 student-athletes on the academic all-conference list over the past three school years alone.
