TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – St. Mary’s Alejandra Cantu and Cami Furgeson each cracked 40 on the front nine Monday, paving the way for impressive outings on the first day of the 13th Annual NSU Golf Classic.

Cantu (Sr., Mission, Texas) is tied for 18th place after shooting an 8-over-par 80 in the first round, while Cami Furgeson (Jr., Newcastle, Calif.) is tied for 23rd after shooting an 81 to help put the Rattlers in a tie for seventh as a team.

Newcomer Bailey Furgeson (Fr., Newcastle, Calif.) shot 83 (T-32nd), Daryn Petermann (So., Comfort, Texas) shot 86 (T-47th) and Julia Dickens (Jr., Fredericksburg, Texas) shot 88 (T-55th).

Host Northeastern State leads the event after shooting 302 as a team, 28 strokes better than the Rattlers. NSU’s Kelsey Kirkpatrick leads the tournament after carding a 1-under-par 71.

The final round will get underway Tuesday.
