San Antonio – Alejandra Cantu caught fire Tuesday, firing a 3-over-par 75 to storm up the leader board and claim third place at the 2011 Fall Cardinal Classic for the St. Mary’s women’s golf team.

Cantu, a senior women’s golfer from Mission, Texas, finished the tournament with a score of 158 to help the Lady Rattlers claim second place as a team.

Fellow Rattler standout Bailey Furgeson, a freshman from Newcastle, Calif., shot 164 to take fourth place, while older sister Cami Furgeson (Jr., Newcastle, Calif.) came in eighth with a score of 170.

Julia Dickens (Jr., Fredericksburg, Texas) shot 178, while Adela Elizonda Rodriguez (Jr., Monterrey, Mexico) scored 182.

Incarnate Word’s Flower Castillo shot 149 to win the tournament, fueling the host school to the team victory as well. The Cardinals scored 636.

Texas A&M-Kingsville finished third at 700.

For St. Mary’s, the tournament concludes a successful fall season that saw them progressively improve after finishing eighth in the season’s first event, the Southwest Classic, back in September.
