San Antonio – A windy morning didn’t make a difficult back nine any easier Tuesday, causing St. Mary’s senior men’s golfer Chris Becker’s eyes to widen as he stared at the leaderboard after wrapping up the third and final round of the Bruce Williams Memorial Tournament/St. Mary’s Invitational.

“I see a couple of low scores up there,” he said with a wry smile. “I’m not sure how they did it.”

Becker’s own score was right there among the best, as the San Antonio native turned in a 1-over-par 73 for a three-round score of 225, which put him in a tie for 11th place at St. Mary’s tournament.

The Rattlers finished eighth as a team with a score of 917, while Abilene Christian – paced by individual champion Alex Carpenter – won the team title at 874. Carpenter turned in a score of 209 for the tournament.

“Everything went all right,” Becker said of his showing. “It was extremely windy on those last few holes. I wish I had finished a little stronger, but I was able to put in a good score in the end.”

St. Mary’s senior Sam Jernigan (Sr., San Antonio) posted an 80 on Tuesday for a tournament score of 228, putting him in a tie for 22nd. Marko Lloyd, a freshman from New Braunfels, Texas and Shawn Bennett (So., Marion, Texas) finished in a tie for 33rd at 232.

St. Mary’s medalist Kyle Becker (Fr., San Antonio) tied for 26th with a score of 230.
