San Antonio – A team cannot go 4-0 during a week without a combination of stellar hitting and pitching, and St. Mary’s baseball players Greg Herbst and Tyler Migl gave the Rattlers just that last week.

And they have been named Heartland Conference Players of the Week for their efforts. Herbst, a senior pitcher from San Antonio, was named Pitcher of the Week, while Migl, a junior first baseman from San Antonio, earned Hitter of the Week honors, the league announced Monday.

Herbst, a graduate of O’Connor High School, pitched a 10-strikeout three-hitter in a 4-2 victory over Texas-Permian Basin last week. Herbst, an infielder for the Rattlers last year, did not allow an earned run in the game in 7 1/3 innings pitched.

Meanwhile, Migl, also an O’Connor graduate, hit .692 and scored eight runs to help lead a St. Mary’s offense that averaged eight runs per contest. In 13 at-bats, he blasted two home runs, three doubles and drove in three runs, while also walking three times for an on-base percentage of .778.

Together, they helped the Rattlers (8-3, 6-0 in Heartland Conference) sweep UTPB to remain in sole possession of first place in the conference.

St. Mary’s will play at Houston-Victoria at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
