San Antonio – The St. Mary’s baseball team dropped six of seven games to Texas-Permian Basin a year ago, a fact the Rattlers remembered all too well entering this weekend’s series.

So you can imagine how good they felt following Saturday’s romp.

St. Mary’s completed the series sweep of the Falcons on Saturday, blasting them for a 15-5, run-rule victory at V.J. Keefe Memorial Stadium.

The Rattlers are now a Heartland Conference-leading 6-0 in league play, and 8-3 overall.

A 10-run third inning, an inning so explosive that even the outfield scoreboard had difficulty displaying it, was all the difference.

Falling behind 1-0 in the first inning, St. Mary’s pulled ahead 3-1 in the second. The Rattlers then shut the door in the third.

Tyler Migl (Jr., San Antonio) led the Rattlers with a 4-for-4 day at the plate, driving in a pair of runs and scoring four times on a day he homered once and also doubled. He recorded his double and homer in that wild third inning, a frame in which the Rattlers sent 13 batters to the plate.

Josh McElroy (Jr., Helotes, Texas), Derek Moczygemba (So., Bulverde, Texas), Billy Richard (So., Schertz, Texas) and Jason Garcia (Sr., Falfurrias, Texas) all also had two-RBI outings.

Kyle Bumpas (Fr., El Paso, Texas) picked up the victory, his first of the year, in a relief appearance. He went 3 2/3 innings, giving up two earned runs on four hits while striking out one.

The Rattlers will take the field again on Tuesday, when they play at Houston-Victoria at 5 p.m.
