San Antonio – St. Mary’s baseball team’s fine start to the season keeps getting better.

St. Mary’s senior pitcher Matt Holland and senior catcher Ryan Morrow received Heartland Conference Player of the Week honors on Monday, with Holland being named the league’s Pitcher of the Week and Morrow the Catcher of the Week.

Holland, a native of Shreveport, La., opened the season by pitching a fantastic game in a 6-1 victory over Newman. Going six innings in the start, he didn’t give up a run with a victory on the mound over Newman, going six innings without giving up an earned run in a 6-1 victory. He didn’t give up a run and struck out five.

Morrow, a native of Bulverde, Texas and graduate of Smithson Valley High School, was a triple short of hitting for the cycle in Sunday’s victory over Newman. He had two doubles, a home run and a single to help the Rattlers prevail 9-3.

Morrow wrapped up the series with a .455 batting average, two homers and five RBIs for a 1.182 slugging percentage.

St. Mary’s swept the series, starting the season with a 3-0 mark in Heartland Conference play. The Rattlers host Tarleton State in a non-conference game at 3 p.m. Tuesday at V.J. Keefe Memorial Stadium.
