SEGUIN, Texas – Women’s tennis player Erica Carmona was St. Mary’s University’s big winner at Texas Lutheran University’s 1st Annual Doc Skogman Invitational, winning the “B” singles championship.
Carmona, a junior from Converse, Texas, beat SU’s Blake 6-1, 6-0.
In the “A” singles, Elisha Bryant (So., Plano, Texas) and Cimen Soy (Sr., Gothenburg, Sweden) both got tripped up in the quarterfinals, with Soy losing in a walkover to Our Lady of the Lake University’s Alba and Bryant narrowly falling to SU’s DeLeon 7-6 (5), 4-6, 1-0 (7).
Huong Huynh (Jr., Houston) took home third place in the C singles, beating Rachel Guterriez (So., San Antonio) 6-1, 6-1.
In doubles action, St. Mary’s top two squads advanced to the third-place game, while the B team beat OLLU 8-3 in the third round.
