Dallas – Melinda Gentry’s unassisted goal in the 73rd minute helped the St. Mary’s University women’s soccer team salvage a 1-1 tie on the road against Dallas Baptist University on Saturday.

Gentry, a senior from Plano, Texas scored in the top-right corner of the net, the final goal of the afternoon as the teams tied after two scoreless overtime periods.

Dallas Baptist’s Allyson Bates put St. Mary’s in a 1-0 hole 19 minutes into the game, but Dallas Baptist’s lead was short lived thanks to Gentry.

Gentry attempted three shots – all on goal – while teammate Emilie Snelson (Jr., Fairview, Texas) registered seven shots.

St. Mary’s goalkeeper Felicia Lombardo (Fr., New Braunfels, Texas) saved 10 shots and allowed just one goal in 110 minutes.

St. Mary’s outshot Dallas Baptist 17-16.

The tie puts the Rattlers’ overall record at 9-6-2 and 6-2-1 in conference. They will host Heartland Conference-leading St. Edward’s University in their regular-season finale next Saturday. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
