San Antonio – Hit, set, you name it – St. Mary’s University volleyball player Kori McCarver showed last week she can play just about any role on the court.

And now, following a week in which McCarver flashed her versatility by filling whatever role the Rattlers asked of her, the St. Mary’s volleyball program has its second Heartland Conference Player of the Week in as many weeks.

McCarver, a senior setter from San Antonio, has been named the conference’s Hitter of the Week, the league announced Monday evening.

McCarver, a 5-foot-9 graduate of Churchill High School, alternated serving as the Rattlers’ top hitter and setter in helping the team earn a 1-1 mark last week.

In a loss to Newman University last Thursday, she was the leading hitter, hitting .619 with a team-high 13 kills and 32 assists. Two nights later, in a critical conference victory over the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith, McCarver excelled as the setter, recording 39 assists to go along with 13 kills, 14 digs and a .312 hitting average.

She totaled 71 assists, 24 digs and 26 kills over two matches last week.

Last week, St. Mary’s junior libero/defensive specialist Stephanie Flores was named the Heartland Conference Libero of the Week.

The Rattlers (4-7) returns to the court Thursday, when they travel to Odessa, Texas, to face the University of Texas-Permian Basin at 7 p.m.
