Fort Smith, Ark. – The St. Mary’s University volleyball team finally met its match, falling 3-0 to the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith on Saturday.

The defeat snapped a five-match winning streak for the red-hot Rattlers, who have surged into prime positioning for the Heartland Conference Tournament with their recent winning streak.

Because Arkansas-Fort Smith remains a provisional member of the conference this season, the loss did not affect St. Mary’s positioning in the league standings.

Despite receiving 32 digs from Stephanie Flores (Jr., San Antonio), St. Mary’s lost the match 16-25, 21-25, 20-25.

Stephanie Proske (Jr., LaGrange, Texas) had a great outing with a team-high eight kills and a .375 hitting percentage, while Kate Kershner (Sr., San Antonio) and Luisa Rodrigues (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) added 13 and 10 digs, respectively.

Kori McCarver (Sr., San Antonio) led the Rattlers with 25 assists.

St. Mary’s has an overall record of 11-14, including a 5-4 mark in conference play.

The Rattlers play at Texas A&M International University at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
