San Antonio – St. Mary’s University student-athletes Kelly Baker and Arlynda Flores were named College Sports Information Directors of American (CoSIDA)/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District for their play on the softball field and work in the classroom.

Baker (Jr., Arlington, Texas) hit .318 with 11 doubles, 32 RBI and 16 runs scored in 54 games played. Baker was named to the Heartland Conference All-Tournament team after hitting .333 in the Rattlers run to the title. She has nine games with two or more base hits and 11 games with two or more RBI. For her play, she was named All-Heartland Conference for the third straight season.

Off the field, Baker has a 3.83 grade point average, majoring in exercise and sport science. The award marked the second straight season that she has earned Academic All-District recognition. She has been named to the Heartland Conference President’s Honor Roll each of the last three years. Baker is also active in the community. She has volunteered for St. Mary’s University’s Continuing the Heritage Community Service Day, Habitat for Humanity, the Fiesta Oyster Bake cleanup and a fundraiser for the University of Texas Health Science Center/Cancer Treatment and Research Center.

Flores (Sr., Uvalde, Texas) hit .315 with 10 doubles, 8 homeruns, 33 RBI and 39 runs scored. She has 10 games with two or more base hits and eight games with two or more RBI. She was named to the All-Heartland Conference Tournament team, after hitting .500 with 2 homeruns, 2 RBI and 3 runs scored. For the third straight season, she was named All-Heartland Conference.

Flores has a 3.66 grade point average, majoring in exercise and sport science. The award marked the second straight season that she has earned Academic All-District recognition. She has been named to the Heartland Conference President’s Honor Roll each of the last two years. Flores is also active in the community. She has volunteered for St. Mary’s University’s Continuing the Heritage Community Service Day, Habitat for Humanity, the Fiesta Oyster Bake cleanup and a fundraiser for the University of Texas Health Science Center/Cancer Treatment and Research Center.

The award marked the third straight year that the Rattlers have had at least one Academic All-District honoree in softball. Since moving to NCAA Division II in 2000, St. Mary’s has had seven Academic All-District honorees. In its history, St. Mary’s has had 10 Academic All-American honors. St. Mary’s has had 43 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Scholar-Athletes over the last 11 years.

St. Mary’s finished the 2010 season with a 34-21 record and won the Heartland Conference Tournament title. The Rattlers advanced to the NCAA Division II South Central Region Tournament in Wichita Falls, Texas. St. Mary’s had seven student-athletes earn All-Heartland Conference honors.
