Abilene, Texas – St. Mary’s University senior Jeff Rein led the men’s golf team to a top-10 finish at the Charles Coody West Texas Intercollegiate by shooting an even-par 71 in Tuesday’s final round.

Rein, a San Antonio native who graduated from Central Catholic, guided the Rattlers to ninth place by shooting a two-day total of 140 to finish in a tie for ninth individually.

St. Mary’s shot 288 in the final round, improving upon Monday’s 296, for a two-round score of 584.

Matt Vela (Sr., MacArthur) shot a 2-under-par 69 on Day 2, tops for the Rattlers, to finish in a tie for 21st place with a two-round total of 143.

Tim Paiz, a sophomore from San Antonio, finished in a tie for 48th at 150, while Sam Jernigan (Jr., San Antonio) shot 151 and Guy Goodspeed (Jr., Del Rio, Texas) shot 160.

The University of Central Oklahoma won the event, bettering host-school Abilene Christian University by three strokes.
